ABOUT

Fanny Shorter is an English designer and illustrator based in Wiltshire. Her distinctive, detailed work is largely inspired by her upbringing in a school in the quintessentially English county town of Winchester, surrounded by historic architecture and idyllic countryside.

Narratives in nature and a strong passion for pattern, printing and the history of the decorative arts form the greatest influence over her vibrant, whimsical aesthetic that draws as much from a Fauvist-flavoured palette as it does from the V&A vaults.

Fanny worked as an illustrator in London for 10 years before she began her eponymous line of screen-printed fabrics and wallpapers printing her first fabric available by the metre in 2015. She now works from her studio in the Chalke Valley in Wiltshire.

PRODUCTION

Fanny’s work has its roots firmly in historic British craftsmanship and design so we aim to reproduce the fabrics and wallpapers using traditional printing methods. All but two of the fabrics are screen-printed by hand at a factory in London and the wallpapers are screen-printed or surface printed at a factory in Leicestershire. These traditional processes retain the detail of each element of the original design and the feeling of connection to how it is produced.
